Boot up your music software
and load in a chopped up drum loop. I am using logic Audio 5.5 and
the EXS 24 software sampler.
The next thing to do is
to lay down the loop into the matrix display.
I have put down a pattern
and made it 2 bars long. listen to clip
Next we will loop the bar
twice and then go back to the main screen. We now have 8 bars of a
drum loop ready to be manipulated.
Stage 2
now for the fun part. Go back into your software
sampler and change the tune or pitch to +12 . we have now changed
the pitch to one octave higher than it should be. From here we need
to go back into the main screen and do some midi automation.
Setting up the Midi Automation
Go into the menu view and choose track automation
or wherever it is in your software package.
next choose coarse tune and the display should look something like
this.
Here is what it should look like in the Main screen
with Midi Automation turned on
Stage 3
On to the final stage now. What we want to achieve
is a sweeping pitched loop from +12 transpose back down to 0 . This
will mean we have sweeped the pitch a full octave down from a higher
position. In order to do this we need to grab the line at the end
of the loop and drag it down to the zero point like this
Drag the line by holding it down with the mouse.
Pull it down untill it reaches the zero mark
We have now completed the sweep and it should sound something like
this
I like to normally sweep down or up a drum loop over
a shorter distance.
Now that we have our sweeping pitch we can always
change the way it sweeps.
Here is a nice technique i use to add
spice to a sweep
We now have a drum loop with a good sweeping pattern.
The next step is to add some effects to the the drum loop.
